Wills Ride 2022 - Section 2
Week 5: WHITE RIVER JUNCTION to BAR HARBOR!!
July 30 - Middlebury to White River Junction
Will biked Middlebury Gap today! It looks like we were going to have rain often on today but we never got wet. Got a good early start this morning and bike up Middlebury gap with Larry leading the way. We fight with Larry to the outskirts of Bethel where we ate lunch with him and then we biked on to White River Junction while he waited on Viv to pick him up. Well did really well biking today. I did not tell him that we were on the ascent until we were almost at the top, as he was a bit anxious over it.
Felt a bit odd biking today without Don, as he has been with us for the first two trips through this area. Tomorrow we will bike onward to Lincoln New Hampshire.

July 31 - White River Junction, VT to Lincoln, NH
Chilly morning but it soon got HOT! Will can now say he went to Dartmouth! We had another great day of riding other than a recurring mechanical issue. You will notice the picture of Will with his shirt unzipped as he got very hot this afternoon going up the pass. We got to cross our first covered bridge this afternoon.
We spent the vast majority of the day in low gear as we kept dropping the chain when we tried to shift between low, medium, and high.

August 1 - Lincoln, NH to Bridgeton, ME
Will and I got a good start to the morning and made good progress on the climb up the Kancamagus Highway. The first 13 to 14 miles were uphill and then we had a great downhill. The roads were very busy, with lots of tourist traffic. We are tolerating, but not loving the heat. Will did enjoy picking wild raspberries and continues to pick apples anytime we get close to a tree. We crossed over into Maine this afternoon and look forward to arriving in Bar Harbor soon.

August 2 - Bridgeton, ME to Brunswick
Another hot day! Getting close and didn’t take any cool pics. Not looking forward to tomorrow, as we will have to push hard as our motel is in Belfast.
August 3 - Brunswick to Belfast
Last night was a bit rough as we ate dinner at the 4th restaurant we tried. This area has been very much impacted by our labor shortage. We ended up at a McDonald’s. The Best Western was very well managed and well staffed so we got an early start for today. Sorry, again not many pics at all. We met some super nice people along the way, that we look forward to keeping in touch with in the future. We continue to have issues with the chain and the small gear in the back.

August 4 - Belfast to Bar Harbor!
We made it! Tried to take a few more pictures today. We had to put the chain back on the running gear 11 times, so we spent most of the day in low gear. We have not seen rain in probably a week or so so it was a bit hot. These hills seem to have grown some since last year!
